Contents
Per 1,000 mL Na 50 meq, Cl 50 meq, K 20 meq, lactate 20 meq, anhydrous glucose 100 g, (NaCl 1.75 g, KCl 1.5 g, Na lactate 2.24 g). Osmolarity: 695 mOsm. Energy: 400 kCal
Indications/Uses
Water & electrolyte supplement or replenishment. Difficulties in the oral intake of water & electrolytes post-op; hypertonic dehydration w/ hypokalemia; carbohydrate & electrolyte imbalances.
Dosage/Direction for Use
Usual dosage: 500-1,000 mL gradual IV drip infusion as a single dose.
Contraindications
Lactacidemia, hyperkalemia, oliguria, Addison's disease, severe burn, azotemia. Patients w/ Na overload, glucose-galactose malabsorption syndrome, severe hepatic injury, cardiac arrhythmia.
Special Precautions
CHF, renal failure, peripheral & pulmonary edema, preeclampsia, HTN, early post-traumatic state, severe sepsis, acidosis, reduced urinary output due to obstructive urinary tract disease, DM. Pregnancy & lactation.
Adverse Reactions
Alkalosis; cerebral, pulmonary & peripheral edema; water intoxication, hyperkalemia, thrombophlebitis.
